Lando & Anastasi, LLP Enhances Life Sciences Patent Team with Addition of Ph.D.’s

Lando & Anastasi, LLP (L&A) recently announced that Melissa M. Adams, Ph.D., Mandeep Kaur, Ph.D. and Amanda K. McFedries Ph.D. have joined the firm as technology advisors in our life sciences practice.

L&A continues to expand its Life Sciences practice, with the recent addition of three hires in the group. “We are excited to welcome Melissa, Mandeep, and Amanda, as they have deep technical and scientific knowledge that complements our clients’ technologies well,” commented Diana Collazo, a partner and head of the firm’s Life Sciences group.

Melissa Adams is a patent agent, whose practice focuses on patent prosecution, portfolio analysis and management, and diligence in all areas of life sciences. Prior to joining L&A, Melissa worked as a patent agent at a Boston-area IP law firm.

Melissa received a Ph.D. in Biology from Harvard University, she earned an M.S. degree in Biology from Stanford University and her B.S. degree in Biology from North Carolina State University. Melissa is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She is the author of a number of scientific research articles published in well-known journals, including the Journal of Bacteriology, Environmental Microbiology, and Frontiers in Microbiology and has experience as a Scientific Editor for the American Journal Experts.

Mandeep Kaur is a technology specialist who brings several years of cutting edge experience as a cancer researcher to her practice with L&A’s life sciences group. She assists in the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, performs freedom to operate and patentability analyses, and conducts due diligence reviews.

Mandeep received a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Dartmouth College where she worked in the laboratory of Dr. Michael D. Cole in the Program in Experimental and Molecular Medicine. Her Ph.D. thesis focused on the mechanisms of gene regulation by the oncogene c-Myc, and provided insights into novel repression and transactivation mechanisms. Her post-doctoral work at MIT’s Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research focused on the development of a humanized mouse model of de novo Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) with an autologous human immune system, and the generation of TCR-like CAR-T cells recognizing an AML neoantigen. Mandeep received a B.Sc., summa cum laude from State University of New York at Buffalo in Biochemistry with a Biochemical Pharmacology minor.

Amanda McFedries is a technology specialist who practices in the life sciences group and assists in the drafting and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications primarily in the areas of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Prior to joining L&A, Amanda worked as a technology specialist at a Boston-area IP law firm.

Amanda’s doctoral research focused on understanding protein-small molecule interactions with the goal of identifying new, therapeutically relevant pathways. She investigated the impact of acute inhibition of insulin degrading enzyme in the context of type 2 diabetes. She has experience with cell culture, affinity mass spectrometry, biochemical and in vivo mouse techniques.

Amanda received her Ph.D. in biochemistry from Harvard University. She received her B.S. in biotechnology from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She co-authored scientific publications in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Chemistry & Biology, the Journal of Immunology, Nature, the Journal of the American Chemical Society, and PLOS ONE.
