Melissa practices in the life sciences group. She drafts and prosecutes U.S. and foreign patent applications, performs freedom to operate and patentability analyses, and conducts due diligence reviews primarily in the field of biotechnology. She works with clients ranging from multi-national pharmaceutical companies to biotechnology start-ups. Prior to joining L&A, Melissa worked as a patent agent at a Boston-area IP law firm.
Melissa’s Ph.D. research focused on carbon-cycling and energy-generating metabolisms in deep sea microorganisms. Her studies of the key microbes and mechanisms underlying these globally important metabolic processes equip her with technical expertise in molecular biology, microbiology, bioinformatics, cell culture, physiology, and biochemistry. She has authored original research publications in the Journal of Bacteriology, Environmental Microbiology, and Frontiers in Microbiology.
Melissa also has experience as a Scientific Editor for American Journal Experts. She reviewed and revised research publications from non-native English speakers in a broad range of subject areas including biotechnology, cell biology, chemistry, genetics, neuroscience, physiology, and systems biology.
