IP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity.

L&A is proud to join the global community in celebrating World IP Day on April 26, 2024. This year’s theme, “IP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity,” resonates deeply with L&A’s commitment to fostering an environment that celebrates diversity, upholds equity, and promotes inclusion.

World IP Day is an occasion to recognize the invaluable role of intellectual property (IP) in advancing economic, social, and cultural progress. This year programming and content from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and their partners focuses on how IP rights incentivize creativity and global collaboration toward the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“IP is not just about protecting ideas; it’s about driving positive change and building a better world for future generations,” said Nicole Palmer, L&A’s hiring partner and a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee. “We are excited to celebrate World IP Day and reflect on the transformative power of innovation and the UN’s SDGs.”

The SDGs are a set of 17 interconnected global objectives adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals represent a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, promote responsible consumption, and ensure prosperity for all by addressing key challenges such as inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, and peace and justice. Each SDG is accompanied by specific targets and key indicators to track progress and measure impact. By connecting intellectual property and innovation to the SDGs, globally we can unlock new solutions and collaborations that move the needle.
