Water Industry Pioneer Gary C. Ganzi Receives Award for Leadership and Contributions to ASTM Water Quality Standards

  • March 4, 2026

Boston, MALando & Anastasi LLP (L&A) celebrates Gary C. Ganzi, Senior Counsel at L&A and former Head of IP at Evoqua, for his leadership on the ASTM committee developing the D1193 Specification for Reagent Water. This foundational standard provides critical guidance for regulatory agencies, laboratories, and industries reliant on consistent, high-purity reagent grade water, as is utilized in the life sciences, environmental, and other advanced technical fields.

Gary was presented with an award for leadership at ASTM Committee Week in Houston, TX in December 2025, solidifying his reputation as a trailblazer and leader in water innovation. His involvement with ASTM includes chairing its subcommittee on Membranes and Ion Exchange Materials, and leading an expert team, comprising both water producers and end users, to revitalize and reapprove ASTM’s Standard Specification for Reagent Water, ensuring it reflects the latest technological advancements and meets the evolving needs of industries worldwide.

Gary also brings his water industry and electrochemistry expertise to his work with a newly formed ASTM collaboration group (Standard Development for Hydrogen Based Elecrolyzers and Fuel Cells), which he co-chairs together with the chair of the ASTM subcommittee on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells. This collaboration aims to develop standards relating to electrolyzers and fuel cells, which require practical implementation of advanced technologies for clean energy solutions such as for green hydrogen synthesis and subsequent generation of electrical power. The task group is expected to direct water quality standards and subcomponent test methods, and will establish critical guidelines to support safety, efficiency, and scalability in the growing hydrogen economy.

While Gary’s contributions to ASTM International are conducted independently of L&A, the firm is proud to honor his achievements as they exemplify the type of cutting-edge expertise and industry experience that defines L&A’s approach to the practice of intellectual property law. With more than 30 years of experience in chemical engineering, water and wastewater treatment technologies, and IP, Gary brings a unique perspective to these projects within ASTM and to his clients.

“Gary’s work with ASTM reflects a rare combination of technical depth and industry perspective,” said Peter C. Lando, Co-Founding Partner of L&A. “We are proud to see his leadership recognized for its lasting influence on water quality standards worldwide.”
